Devan Hamrick earned two wins on Monday evening

It was a bonus night of wrestling on the mats at Southern High School on Monday evening as the Rams played host to Hyndman and Meyersdale in a make-up match that had been scheduled last week in PA.  The Southern wrestlers gave the home fans their money's worth, winning both tight matches and hosting youth wrestlers from b all the schools as well.

The first match of the evening was between Southern and Hyndman.  The two teams had met at a tournament earlier in the season and the outcome was as close as it gets.  The match in early January ended in a tie with the Rams capturing the victory based on criteria.  The final outcome on Monday evening was exactly the same although the individual matches were quite different.  In the end, the Rams prevailed 37-36, winning again on criteria after a 36-36 deadlock to set up the second match of the evening vs. Meyersdale.

It had been a couple years since the Rams have squared off with the Red Raiders, but is was the same tough PA school with all new faces.  Meyersdale won the opening bout by pin then the Rams reeled off six straight wins to take a 33-6 lead.  The Red Raiders closed the gap over the next 6 matches to bring the team score to 39-34 with one bout remaining.  Senior co-captain Dalton Cooper took the mat with the match on the line and performed like a team leader should, he took the lead and pinned his opponent early in the second period to seal the win for his team.

Southern is back in action tomorrow evening as we host another tri match starting at 6pm.  Fort Hill and Keyser come to town to tangle with the red-hot Rams.  Photos courtesy of Alex Flanigan from last week's Frankfort match.
