It was a great evening on the mat at South Hagerstown High School on Wednesday as the Southern Rams picked up their 25th win on the season by defeating the Rebels 67-6.  Many other milestones were reached as the visiting team dominated during the home team's senior night celebration.  Several wrestlers reached the 20, 25 and 30 win plateaus and the team improved to 10-0 in dual meet competition this season.

Senior Will Foulke won his 20th of the season by adding a first period fall and Seth Kisner and Dalton Cooper were given forfeits extending Southern's lead to 31-0.  Brian Rinker picked up his 25th win on the season with a pin and Keith Chapman took only :16 to pins his opponent stretching Southern's lead to 43-0.  The Rebels got their only win of the night at 285 giving Southern a 43-6 lead heading to the lower weights.

At 106, sophomore Devan Hamrick was searching for his 30th win of the season and he earned that honor with a second period pin.  George Zimmerman was awarded a forfeit bringing the team score to 55-6 in Southern's favor.  There was a double-forfeit at 120 to allow Austin Shaffer to bump to 126 to wrestle the Rebel's top kid.  Shaffer was also in search of his 30th win and from the beginning, there was little doubt.  Shaffer built a 12-3 lead before getting the pin to join the 30 win club.  Josh King won by pin at 132 in less than a minute to end the match and give the Southern Rams the 67-6 victory.

Beatin' The Dawgs

Freshman Jimmy Schwab scores a big pin!
It was another cold winter night as the Southern Rams visited the Igloo in Accident for the first of two cross-county dual meets with the Northern Huskies.  The gym heated up quickly as the two teams squared off in a very competitive match.

Seth Kisner was on fire!!!
The dual meet started at 120 with Southern's Austin Shaffer earning a dominating tech fall to give the Rams an early 5-0 lead.  Northern scored a major decision at 126 to make it 5-4, Southern.  Freshman Jimmy Schwab won by pin at 132 to stretch the lead to 11-4.  Northern would go on a run, winning each of the next four bouts to take a 22-11 lead heading into 170.

At 170, senior Seth Kisner took the mat with a great deal of excitement and energy.  It wasn't long before Kisner was earning the pin and tightening the team score.  Dalton Cooper also took little time picking up a pin and Southern took the lead 23-22.  Senior Brian Rinker also won by fall and Keith Chapman was awarded a forfeit and the Rams opened a 35-22 lead going into the heavyweight bout.
Brian Rinker's pin gave the Rams the lead for good.

Northern won the bout at 285 and we went to the lightweights with Southern leading 35-28.  Southern was forfeiting at 113, so the match was on the line at 106.  Whoever won the bout would clinch the win for their team.  In no time at all, Devan Hamrick was in control, earned a takedown and was working for the pin.  In less than a minute, the official was slapping the mat and the Rams escaped the igloo with a 41-34 victory.

With the win against Northern, the Rams move to 24-3 overall and remain unbeaten in dual meets with a 9-0 record.  It right back to work today as Southern travels to Hagerstown to battle South High in a match that begins at 6pm.
